A email and PM were sent out a couple days prior about free agency opening on Sunday.
I too asked in a private message about what board is first. Seems to be confusion as some think ESPN and others think message board. We will get this figured out going forward.

It has always been that players added here were official. The ESPN site is just a secondary site to keep scoring, records, etc. Also, even though I have no interest in any FA right now, the incredibly short notice was certainly somewhat unfair. I opened that notice right before work, and after a night of massive stress, slept in and then ran errands when I got up. Half a day notice for anything is too shart.

Just realized I said shart instead of short, but I'll accept it. ;D

I don't mean to pile on, but I found this (response from Brad) with the wonderful "search" option from July 2008. The only reply to this post was by me and I said fair enough. FYI - The entire thread can be found in the Rule Proposals and League Changes forum on page 2. Re: Free agents « Result #9 on Jul 17, 2008, 12:24pm » That is true . . . it does all of that . . . BUT . . . in case in future years there are any disputes over player ownership and the like, all moves should be cataloged here where they can be archived in old sections and found with the wonderful "search" key above. The message board is the official site of record because league management controls it 24/7/365 and if all moves are posted here then it is a simple matter of search old posts to come up with the proper answer. I trust everyone here implicitly, but if we get new members because some of you have to leave, it is as easy as editing an official roster post without notice by an unscrupulous owner during the non-ESPN season to make a player's ownership come into question. If two owners have the same player listed and one was a pickup on ESPN during the season that we didn't record here on the message board . . . there would be no record to check on. That is the reasoning for posting all moves on the message board. It is a pre-emptive action to prevent future problems. Additionally . . . message boards such as this may be accessible from people's work while most assuredly ESPN will not . . . if you hear about a hot FA on the radio but are stuck at work, you can post a claim on the message board (which is official) and then pick him up later on ESPN to reflect your official move earlier.Other opinions are welcome on this . . . but I think a little extra typing when making a roster move of any type to keep the league flowing with fewer problems is well worth it. I am taking care of a baseball league where roster moves on ESPN are encouraged to be posted on the message board site, but rarely are . . . it makes it hell to keep up with

I think that's how we've typically run free agency. Obviously, in season waiver claims have to be posted on this site after the fact since it doesn't make sense to post the transaction for a player you are hoping to get.
I understand that we all get busy or even lazy and sometimes forget to update our roster on this site right away. That would also include the in season waivers because that depends on you checking to see if your claim request was processed the next day... but I always thought the free for all free agency had to be posted here first.
As for the notice, we could have had more notice. I was on my way out of town on Friday for a multi-day golf drunkfest shit show. I just barely made it back in time to even be able to compete in the Pierre Thomas sweepstakes. I will say, that in the past couple of years, there have been times when I missed out as well and was late to the free for all party.

I also like the idea of a posted date that FA starts (as opposed to 3 hours prior to having it start), maybe pick a date that understands ESPN's typical delay with their site....Maybe AUGUST 1st, then there will be no more controversy.......

I like that idea as well. If we can commit to a firm draft date every year, no reason why FA can't be the same. LM should weigh in on the last few posts.. still waiting.. youtu.be/5F1rbbLon8E?hd=1&t=2m21s

if we move the league from ESPN, we won't have to worry about setting up a start date right now. I don't care if we move the league or not.

Fair enough. I'd be curious to hear a response to post #18 as well. I haven't found anything that contradicts Brad explanation that I put in bold.
I understand it wasn't in the official rules, but it seems like it was in the "Rule Proposals" thread.

I guess like you said,it wasn't in the official rules, but in the proposal thread. I asked Brad what the rule was and he looked at the rules and told me ESPN. As sad as it may be,if he would of told me it was on the message board,I would of had everything typed in and I would of hit enter as soon as it hit noon. I was just going by what I was told by the guy in charge.
Also, everyone was given over 24 hours notice as far as free agency opening. We opened free agency then since some were unhappy it wasn't open all ready. We also did it on a weekend day since we thought this was fair for everyone.

I don't think the abrupt opening of FA this year wasn't such a big deal, because there isn't much to pick through. However, that may be different in future seasons.
