I have my big money league draft this Saturday. I have the eighth pick in a 12 team redraft league. It is a 17 round ppr league and you start 1-QB 2-RB's 3-WR's 1-TE and 1-K. I am looking at either Portis or Barber at #8 and then I am thinking about taking a stud WR in round 2. I know some of you think I should go RB but I am leaning towards a WR. I would love to know what you think I should do in round 2 and who are some of your sleepers for me to grab in rounds 14-16(since I will take my kicker in round 17)! Any help would be appreciated.

take a RB in the 2nd. RB-RB-WR-WR-WR-QB is the way to go in my opinion this year. i understand why you want to grab a top WR with ur 2nd choice, but ive gotten 3 very solid starters using this strategy so far in most of my mocks. If i were you, id just do some 12 team mock drafts placing urself with the 8th pick and trying out different strategies. try the RB-WR strategy a couple times and then try my suggestion a couple of times, see which one u like best. the latter always comes out with the most balanced team. as for late round sleepers, Ray Rice should definitely be one.

I have done some mocks on CBS and plan on doing a few more before Saturday. I hope Portis is still there at 8.

Definitely WR in 2nd round! You will most likely end up with Reggie Wayne or Braylon Edwards, both of which are total studs!! Can't miss guys!!

I only advocate getting away from the RB/RB strategy in PPR drafts with 12 or less teams when you pick in the top 5 of the first round . . . and even there you have to be careful because a LOT of people are going RB/WR everywhere in the draft and big RB's are falling even to the bottom of the 2nd round. I am in the middle of a 12 team no-PPR draft and I went LT, Jamal Lewis, Peyton Manning drafting from the #2 slot. So all of that was said to say that the RB value is still there at pick #17 where you will be choosing . . . Portis/Barber and Gore/LJ/Bush is a distinct possibility for you.

I think going RB/RB this year with a late first round pick is a mistake personally. I would guess most of your projections for top 5 WR's will lead to more points than some of the questionable RB2's this year. Even more so if you can land a 9-12 TD value in your WR1. Especially if anyone goes RB/RB in front of you.
Just too many question marks at RB this year to draft RB heavy in the early part of the draft. Meaning top 20 overall. Anyone who does will need more luck than smarts.

I you do decide to go WR Wayne would be a good pick there. Mybe you'll get a Turner or T. Jones in the 3rd.

W/ PPR and starting 3 WRs, going for a WR in the 2nd round is not a bad idea. The WR run for that league should start at the end of the 2nd round and last for a couple of rounds. RBs may be forgotten throughout the 3rd and 4th rounds, which means you could have someone like Ronnie Brown, or McGahee slip down through the 3rd round.
I usually advocate RB-RB almost all the time, but PPR changes things. If you have a stud RB fall to you in the 2nd round, weigh his value compared to what would be a slight downgrade from Wayne or Edwards for your WR1, if you were to go RB-RB-WR.
As for later round sleepers: Meachem, Leon, Chris Johnson, Hardy, Cotchery, Pierre Thomas, and Sweed are all nice values.
Also, I've noticed Roddy White slipping down in a lot of mock drafts. You might find him all the way down in round 7 or 8, which means you could work on a QB and/or TE, and still have a nice WR3 like White in the 7th or 8th. In the last 10-team mock I did, he fell to pick 10.02 (and I just saw Burleson in the 11th).

Keep coming with the input guys. I appreciate everything so far. Load up on as many Bills players as you can... they're going 16-0 this year and will shatter all those records that the Pats put up last year. ;D Just kidding. Depending on how good/experienced the rest of your league is at drafting, I wouldn't be suprised to see a 50/50 split on RB's and WR's in the second. While some people aren't scared off by some of the question marks at RB, I still think getting a top 5 WR is a good idea. If you wait, you'll be looking at someone outside your top 10-15 ranked WR's as your WR1 and then you'll think you have to catch up. By going RB/RB in the first two rounds... you've doubled your chances of losing one of your top 2 picks due to injury. RB's have been dropping like flies in the past few years.

Draft Results: 1 Portis 2 Colston 3 Boldin 4 Holt 5 Winslow 6 Thomas Jones 7 Forte 8 Kevin Curtis 9 Eli 10 Leinart 11 James Harday 12 Chester Taylor 13 Heap 14 Jamarcus 15 Leon Washington 16 Vinaeiri 17 Hightower
I love my WR's and hate my QB situation. I am happy with my team for the most part.

T Jones is your 2nd RB? OUCH! At least you covered him w/ Leon. That is a very nice starting 3 WRs but you sacrificed your RB depth for them. All it will take is Portis, Forte, or Leon to get injured and you're screwed, and we know how easily RBs can get injured.
Whether you take a WR w/ your 2nd round pick or not in PPR, you should always lock up your 2nd RB by round 4 at the latest.
All in all, it was still a solid draft. You are average at QB and weak at RB depth, but everything else looks really nice. W/ that team, you look like a bubble team, but you will probably have to make a savvy trade and/or make a couple of nice FA acquisitions to be a Championship contender. Of course, this is all on paper.....
