The initial league draft will be a snake style draft and will be held on the message board with an 8 hour per pick timer and with the timer shut off between 11pm and 7am CDT. Draft order will be determined randomly in some manner. Trading picks in the initial league draft will not be allowed, but players may be traded for other players as soon as they are drafted and property of their team. This draft will start as soon as the league is full, order is determined and league management feels everything is prepared.
After this first year there will be a 5-round combined Rookie/FA draft every year that will not be snake-style. Picks will go from round to round in reverse order of the previous year's standings. Picks from these drafts may be included in trades, but are subject to the restrictions posted in the Trade Guidelines section of the league rules. Teams must obey roster limits at all times even during draft periods. All new rookies from the NCAA level and all free agents as of the end of the championship game the previous year are eligible for the 5-round combined draft. Additionally, players dropped by existing teams to clear roster spots for drafted players (these players must be stated at the time of the draft pick or else the pick is illegal) are immediately eligible for drafting.
All remaining un-drafted players at the end of any draft are immediately declared free agents and may be signed by any team on a first come, first served basis.
NOTICE: this first come, first served basis is officially kept on these boards. The first to post a FA signing on this board is the official owner of a player, NOT the one that picked him up first on the league website (TBD)
New rules added April 3 2010:
The USFL draft will always commence at 7am on May 1st unless the NFL moves their draft to a later date than that.
It has not been explicitly stated above, but any player drafted in the USFL draft must have signed an NFL contract at some point in his life. Now it has been explicitly stated.
Draft wording changed above from 6 round to 5 round . . . that should be plenty of rounds.
