my problem is you dont tell your team your not going anywhere on tuesday and then thank them on thursday for giving him this opportunity to get the Notre Dame job on Thursday. I dont think any coach can save ND IMO, and it has mostly do to the academic standard. As far as taking a better job, many people know you sign a non compete clause in many of the normal industries of the workforce. This is something that should be changed you shouldn't be able to leave in the midst of a contract if you have none fine leave. Its why when the Rich Rod thing to michigan started i could care less. The two years prior to leaving, he renegotiated his contract so he wouldnt go to nebreska then next year it was ALabama, the following year the school refused to redo his contract for a third time in three years so he left.

so then a coach shouldn't be able to be fired during the term of their contract? Kids can leave early or transfer. Did the Cincy kids care when Kelly left Central Michigan?

My prediction Kelly fired in 4years no BCS victories either I agree....he's no different than the last 3 coaches they've hired.

You gotta like what he did with the Bearcats program in what is a mid-majorish football conference.

I do not belive coaches should be able to leave, and dont you use students transferring as your evidence for you being right. One of two things happens when a player transfers, either he transfers for family medical reasons and is not forced to sit out the year, or he just transfers and he sits out a year. I dont see kelly sitting out a year so explain how that point is valid.
and James i can see why people still call it a mid majorish record but you should check out the big easts record against bcs teams are in the last 5 years in bowl games and non bowl games . Plus if its mid majorish football how does ND the almighty power lose to Syracuse Pittsburgh and Uconn in the last two years lol. Itll be nice to see what happens now that Notre dame has to play 2 big east teams a year.

LOL...you guys crack me up. He is soooo different then Weis,Tyrone and Davie. I love haters. How??!!?? Let's hear the argument that Kelly is "soooo different" than Weis, Ty and Davie. What is "soooo" special about Kelly? I'd like to know. And for the record, I couldn't care less about ND. USC kicks the ass every year! That's the only impact ND has on me and the only ND aspect I care about. I don't see them bothering USC for a while. Clausen and Tate are gone. USC will be much stronger on both sides of the ball next year...especially on defense.

Correct me if I am wrong. I don't believe Kelly deceived his team. He never said he was going to stay. He said he likes it in Cincy, but would listen to Notre Dame. He probably mislead his team regarding his interest in ND, so they could focus more on Pitt for the Big East championship game. In this day and age their is no such thing as loyalty to a school, it's just what it is. Look at all the recruits that decommitt after a coach takes a job somewhere else. Where is the loyalty? Academics may play a small part in his failure or success, but Cincy with him at the helm has the highest grad rate of any Big East school.

There is a difference in the acdemic standards of what ND and UC finds acceptable, and obviously ND is higher. ND might love its football program but it does the right thing and making sure the grades are taking into account.
