NFL Playoff Challenge

I saw a passing mention of this before work and baseball season prep snowed me under. If anyone had looked at my profile they would have seen that my last visit was probably Jan. 6 or so . . . whenever it was that I abandoned the roster approval thread so that we are still locked out from transactions.

I enjoyed following this thread along from beginning to end as there were questions asked about whether it was actually for a pick at the beginning and then as LM's continued to not post it was simply assumed that there would be a pick rewarded as in past years. I do not feel comfortable in awarding a pick to a contest in which all teams were not involved. Everyone has to admit that this was hastily put together. I will, however, organize a vote . . . but not on whether a pick can be included this year. That boat has sailed. The vote will be for whether this contest becomes a permanent part of the rules so that everyone knows about it well ahead of time and there can be no excuses one way or the other in the future. Participation will be optional, but everyone will be informed whether they participate or not. This will take care of issues that have arisen this year by LM absenteeism (on my part at least) and take care of the future. Sorry about this year though. I would have won the whole thing just like I won my money league playoff challenge . . . $180 in the pocket! Go Packers!!

Thank you...that is a reasonable approach and resolution...rather than the "because I said so"

I will admit to being swayed by the argument that it would be odd to have one year in this league where the 3.13 pick was not awarded. I know that Chris is against this and Bill is for this for obvious reasons. I need the rest of the league to weigh in on this.

My feelings are mixed. It would be another one of those things that makes our league unique and I would hate for there to be that one "blank" year. On the other hand, the contest was hastily put together, didn't carry an official league sanction and has brought about a lot of turmoil when discussed.

We will go with majority rules in this case and I hope there are no hard feelings either way. My vote will be held in reserve. 6 votes for the pick will give Bill the pick. 6 votes against the pick will mean that no pick will be awarded for 2011. Chris votes against, Bill votes for, I abstain . . . there can be no ties. 9 more votes to get. Please post below. Thanks!

My vote hasn't changed... I say "yay" to awarding the pick. Unfortunately, it's not a "yay me" moment. =P

Even though I didn't win, I still worked damn hard on whipping that playoff challenge together. Hate to see my efforts go to waste. ;D

I'm for it.....no reason we should have a "blank" year after two years of doing the competition and we already voted for the competition to continue for perpetuity.

Which this shouldn't even be being discussed since we had agreed that this issue was already over. I am pissed that this is even being talked about again. Its not the fact of the pick,it is the way the entire thing went down.

I have stated this privately before and I will state it publicly now. It is no one's fault but mine that any of this is at issue. I was lazy as an LM around the beginning of the playoffs last year. The contest should have been sanctioned and the rewards should have been stated. I saw the hard work Phish was doing and chose to ignore it initially and then was distracted and did not come back to it until it was too late. That is not the proper way for a commissioner to act, not in a league as thriving, competitive and active as this one. I take full responsibility for this fact and I feel terrible every time it is brought up.

I have stated this privately and it has always been my intention to somehow get Bill my 3.12 pick if somehow he was not awarded a 3.13 supplemental pick. That way the only one who takes a lump on his team for my own inactivity and distraction is me. I do not know yet how I am going to do that and remain within the framework of the league's rules, but it will be done. So all this vote is really is an attempt for me to save my own third round pick.

I really do think that it is important for a league defining, unique characteristic like this to be something that can be said to have been continuous since the start of the league. We have items in place now that mean it will be kept as a part of the league in the future. That is where I am coming from. Again . . . all of this is self-serving and I will be the only one who takes a negative hit for my own laziness, but even if I have to request a temporary suspension of league trading rules to get Bill his pick then that is what is going to happen and that has been my intention all along ever since I posted that ruling back in whenever it was.

OMG!! Stunning turn of events!!! The count is now 6-0 and if Chris can change his vote I can take away my abstinence and vote to allow the pick making it 7-0 and majority rules as only 5 teams can no vote against it.

This shall be never spoken of again!! :-)
