I believe that we need to put an addition to the current FA rules that states specifically that no FA pickups will be allowed after the draft until two things happen:
1) ESPN unlocks the offline draft tools and allows us to add the players from our draft.
2) League management sets a time for Free Agency to officially open.
I would put the second part as a set time every year, but you can never be certain when ESPN will unlock the offline draft tool and you can never be certain that there won't be any roster issues to deal with.
Please discuss below, if you approve as is, please post that as well. Thanks!

I was entirely unaware that FA was still closed at damn near the start of training camp. I was under the impression that our entire offseason, after the draft and after LM organized their roster spreadsheet, was a free for all. That is how our league was initially set up and that has been how things should be run. The ESPN site is simply the host site to keep easier track of scoring, records, etc. We are not suppossed to be bound by how and when ESPN opens certain things up. This site is our league, this site is where FA pickups are official, this site is where trades take place, and ESPN is simply there to handle statistics and scoring during the season. We shouldn't be waiting on the ESPN site for anything.
As far as the supplemental draft, I totally brain farted on the T Pryor issue from last season. I agree that it would certainly be more fair to hold a silent bidding deal, just like NFL teams do for their supplemental draft. We will need a window for bids...maybe the length of a week after the NFL supplemental draft, or a week after LM declares bidding open for a sup draft. If we are to declare team priority for same round bids, it would be for the team with the worst record last season, not post-trading draft order.

We hold off on FA so that everyone isn't doing research on and trying to pick up players that have been drafted by other teams. ESPN won't let us pick up free agents currently because we cannot set our draft to finished, thus there are a lot of players that are owned by a USFL team and still on the FA board. I have thought recently about moving this league to an MFL league even though it costs some money to do so . . . I haven't decided quite yet though.

My thought process was more or less the same as Mervs. I dont think moving to MFL is a bad idea. Great setup. I have used Fleaflicker before (granted it has been a few years) but i like that site better the ESPN as well and unless they have changed it.. Its free and i beleive can support a dynasty format. So if you dont wanna dish out the $ but move the league to one place instead of the juggling of two.. FF might be a good option. And i would def be in support of such a move. Going back and forth between the two is kind of annoying.

That's why we're on MFL with GEDL. We just foot the bill....no biggy.

Is it close to the same time each season that ESPN gets their preverbial poop in a group and has things ready? It seems it was much earlier last year.
As far as going forward with the league id be more than happy to give a little bit of $ to move things over to MFL to pay for the yearly site cost. In the one league i commish on MFL, i make a point to pay as early as possible to save on the early bird specials.
As for now, i agree with the F/A rules as posted here as long as we have this format.

The new rule is fine by me. It kinda sucks that ESPN takes so damn long to get up and running every year. After our rookie draft, I kinda forget about this league sometimes.
To echo what some of the others said, I'd gladly chip in to move to MFL. That offer always stands in the GEDL too btw. I could care less if we moved to Fleaflicker. It can definitely host without waiting forever for the rosters to update, but aside from that there's not much difference to me.
