I'd like to get some debate going without too much name calling.
First, what would you do if you were Ted Thompson regarding the Favre situation? Please be realistic, list your options, advantages/disadvantages of each option and then your selected option; not looking for two pages of backup here...just a few sentences with each option.
Secondly, who will start for the Packers? If Farve or Rodgers moves elsewhere, where do they play this year?

id let farve start i think its been said, he lost a game away from a Superbowl nothing with the team has changed, Romo has shown nothing that he has any chance to win in the playoffs. With Farve as the Qb there the favorites IMO(and im a giants fan) id see what the value on the market for rodgers is, if its a 1st round pick id take it. if not id sit on it and let training camp play out

Option 1: Favre is reactivated and starts for Packers with Rodgers riding the pine. The advantage with this option is that it makes the majority of the fans happy and nobody will blame the Packers front office for not putting their best team on the field. Another advantage is that if/when the Packers win less games or do not advance as far in the playoffs the fans won't be blaming Rodgers, McCarthy or Thompson. This disadvantage with this option is that Favre is in the driver's seat again and the whole retirement soap opera/speculation continues on and exhausts everyone.
Option 2: Favre is traded or given his "conditional" release and A. Rodgers starts. The only advantage to this option is that Favre is gone and the Packers get away from the retirement soap opera. The disadvantages are that if Rodgers fails or accomplishes less than Favre did last year (a likely outcome), the fans will want someone's head. Another disadvantage is that Favre will be playing for someone else and could come back and beat the Pack and Rodgers will be constantly compared to Favre. Rodgers and Favre will likely be compared no matter what though.
Option 3: Favre stays retired. The advantages of this option are the same as Option 2. Disdvantages are also the same as Option 2 except that Favre won't beat the Packers.
I think the Packers will move ahead with Rodgers starting this year and either trade or conditionally release Favre. They have more than accomodated Favre. Even as of June 20, 2008, Favre wasn't sure he was 100% committed to playing football. Right or wrong the Packers moved on after Favre "retired", drafted accordingly and, at this juncture, really can't retrace their steps. The only thing they did not do was sign a veteran backup QB with starting experience. They should do that now or in the next several weeks.

Favre won't stay retired, that much is becoming more and more obvious. Therefore, as I have previously mentioned, I would have Favre and Rodgers battle for the starting role in training camp and preseason. Everyone, their Moma, Rodgers, and his Moma all knows Favre will beat out Rodgers, but at least Rodgers was given a fair shot (if you can call this whole debacle fair to Rodgers). After Favre is declared the starter in GB, the front office somehow gets his legal commitment to also play in 2009. Rodgers is therefore put on the trading block, and vehemently pursues the Bears. A trade is worked out between the Pack and the Bears, and Rodgers gets a chance to get revenge against the Pack twice a year. Once Favre actually retires, Brohm will assume the starting role........around 2012.
That's my word.

Nice Nino!
I think The Packers have done the right thing by suggesting he come back as a back up. If he's smart (Brett), he uses that to stay retired and rides his John Deere tractor around his compound in Mississippi on Sundays. If that doesn't stop his need to keep playing, I would suggest he get in front of Thompson and mcCarthy w/o his agent and the press and try to hammer out a "conditional" release, which concludes with something along the lines of he will not sign with a NFC team, at least for the next (2) years while he is currently signed through by GB.
If that happens I see either nino's suggestion of Miami or the popular Ravens option.
Based on all that I feel strongly that Aaron Rodgers will be the opening day starter in GB.

Favre pulls a Montana and goes to Missouri to be a Chief with Tony, Dwayne and Larry.

Fitting that the Dolphins would wear pink helmets. ;D The Lions need to invest in some of those.
