Well... we're just about ready to get this started. It's about fn time!
I'm just thinking that after the draft and all trades that went flying around with future draft picks being thrown around like midgets in a Battle Royal... I'm pretty pleased with myself.
No regrets? Not many anyway. Obviously my hunch was wrong about Travis Henry, but a few others are starting to shape up.
I hate the fact that I gave up Ray Rice... who is the most sought after rookie RB in any league right now. Hopefully DMC will be make me forget about my hunch on Ray Rice. Losing Fitz hurts too, but how could I pass up the chance to get Gates and DMC?
I doubt I'll regret trading away Welker for Brandon Marshall. Especially if he only gets 1 game this year. Marshall might be a baby TO now, but he could blossom into a Marvin Harrison type of productive WR for me for the next 5-10 years.
Selvin Young hasn't been bumped down the depth chart once all pre-season. And in previous years, the starting job was more of a crap shoot. He's been just as productive as Andre Hall has. Maybe he isn't a guarantee to have long term value, but if he makes the most of his opportunity... he'll have wayyy more value than Edge or Rudi. And those guys were drafted in and around the time I took him. Ryan Torrain may have seen his chance slip away with that injury. Who knows...
Jerome Simpson is moving up the depth chart. My hunch was that either Ocho or Housh wouldn't be back next year... and that might not be way off the mark. Housh doesn't seem to be very motivated to get on the field right now. He's a FA next year, so if Ocho stays I doubt he will too. Both of them could be gone next year for all we know.
Nate Burleson made a pretty nice catch in the last game. I think I lot of people are doubting that he could produce decent numbers as a #1. They didn't go after anybody to replace Branch. And now Engram is out for a bit. I wasn't going for long term production when I drafted him, so I'm happy to have another #1 WR who will be catching balls from a pretty competent QB. Seattle's running game won't be anything close to what it was... so there will be plenty of opportunity for Burleson this year and next if nothing changes.
Jeremy Shockey's drama ended with what might be the best possible situation. Take a risk, reap the rewards. ;D
Moose Muhammad will have wayyy more value than DJ Hackett this year. And at this point in the draft, going for youth and upside would be a mistake round after round. I'm in it to win it this year and every year after!
Troy Smith - I only drafted him because I truly felt he'd have a shot to start this year. I wanted to roll the dice on a 3rd starting QB so I'd at least have the option of being able to start 2 QB's every week. If he does well, maybe he gets a shot somewhere else or maybe Flacco rides the pine for a few years. Flacco is coming from a small school, so there is no guarantee he will be able to digest the playbook and be a starter for years to come. And least Troy Smith has a Heisman trophy on his resume.
DJax - Another old guy pick. My team started out among the youngest in the league, so I wasn't trying to snag every rookie from this years draft. Don't be surprised if he hangs on to a WR2 role if he's healthy. Shanahan doesn't like rookies that much.
Jacob Hester - He's been decent so far. He's scored a few times and has proven he can punch it in. There's no way that Darren Sproles gets 20-25 touches a game if LT ever goes down. The Chargers love Hester!
Will Franklin - He'll get his shot sooner rather than later. And for a rookie WR this late in the draft, opportunity is more important than projected talent.
Matt Moore - Just a hunch that Delhomme doesn't play 16 games. If that happens, I could have 4 starting QB's this year. Would I be a genius then?
I don't know... not bad considering we drafted our teams back in May. At least I think so. I took a lot of heat for the Travis Henry thing. And Lynch got into trouble. And I wasn't gettin no respect after the draft. As of today, I'm having more things fall into place than I even thought could happen.
I'm not bragging, I'm just saying. I don't get no respect, no respect at all. ;D
