Chris and I forgot to spell this out specifically in the rules when we started and it is a major oversight on our part, this is an immediately official rule.
Playoff/Draft positioning Tie-Breakers
Seeding for playoff positions within individual divisions will consider the following stats in priority:
1) Overall Record
2) Head-to-Head Record
3) Division Record
4) Total Points
Notice that ESPN standings rankings use Total Points as the 2nd tie-breaker, not the fourth so the order that they show may be different from the actual USFL order.
Also, in the event of 3 or more teams being tied, "head-to-head record" is a combined record against ALL teams involved in the tie . . . if that tie-breaker raises one (or more) team(s) above the others then further tie-breaking evaluations will be performed if necessary for remaining spots.
It will be the duty of League Management to make a full disclosure on a new, separate thread of all tie-breakers used and the stats involved to set either the playoff seedings or the USFL Rookie/FA draft order.
The USFL Rookie/FA draft order will be set every year in a worst to first order using the tie-breaker rules above with the following exceptions: The defending USFL champion will always be assigned the last draft spot and the defending USFL runner-up will always be assigned the next to last draft spot. All other go according to tie-breaker rules.
Yes, this may allow some playoff teams to draft in front of some non-playoff teams, but it is a direct reflection of the NFL rules on the matter.
Parts of this post will be placed immediately into the USFL Regular season and playoff structure forum under the League Rules heading . . . discussion may happen here.
Thanks.
