Reasonable approach suggested by James and Neil, a vote to determine either:
1. Create (3) divisions of (4), (14) week season, (4) playoff teams, using Brads system for division placement (only undecided factor with this one is frequency of re-shuffling, if any)
or
2. Leave as is. (2) divisions of (6), (13) week season, (6) playoff teams. (what needs to be resolved here is exact proceedure to decide how to schedule non division teams, which there would be (3) per year you don't play?). We could discuss whether or not to do any re-shuffling or not on this approach as well??

Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen...
I'm surprised that this is still going on. The reason why we are proposing a switch to 3 divisions is because we ( league majority ) want to make sure nobody ends up with an easier schedule than anyone else. In a 12 team league, it's impossible for everyone to play each other at least once. Especially if divisional opponents are playing each other twice. Hence the switch to 3 divisions.
So why don't we just make 3 divisions based on total points like before, shuffle them every year, 6 teams make the playoffs with the top 2 teams getting a bye, and 2 wildcard teams based on best record and then total points. This format keeps a lot of the original rules with bye weeks etc... and it almost corrects the regular season SOS.
Done. Move to activate new rules. Agreed. Let's move forward. =P

I guess I just assumed that we'd continue to have a bye week for the top teams in the playoffs. Everything up to this point seems to try to mirror the NFL as much as possible.

It really bothers you that in one year you don't play one team? Does the NFL play everyone? I also like that the one team you don't play is different for each team. You will like it better in 3 div. no double header. and if the majority likes what Phishgills said, just reshuffle each division by score each year. I personally would like to keep the same divisions.
Can we vote and see what most people want?

I guess I just assumed that we'd continue to have a bye week for the top teams in the playoffs. Everything up to this point seems to try to mirror the NFL as much as possible. This isn't the NFL, and Swampy, we don't have 32 teams. In a perfect world the NFL season would be 18 weeks with all teams playing a 17 week schedule, but nothing is perfect. For that matter a 4 division setup would allow us to play everybody at least once, have a 6 team playoff, and have no double headers, but that probably wouldn't be an option. I like having 6 playoff teams better than 4, but I also think it is important for everyone to play everyone in a season. i.e. There are two bubble teams. If we go with the 6 playoff team/3 division format, there will be one team left off of everyone's schedule. What if one of those bubble teams has the best team left off of his schedule, while the other doesn't play the worst team in a season. Therefore, one bubble team gets an extra potential easy win, while the other is more likely to suffer an extra loss. That one team left off of each bubble team's schedule could determine their playoff fates. This is a more extreme example, but I am just trying to make a point. I will be cool with whichever format we decide on...

Such is life in the NFL, u can't predict every year who is gonna be the best or worst teams at the start of the season. Wouldn't you still use if bubble teams are tied their head to head matchups to determine their playoff fate. If their is a 3 or 4 way tie for these bubble teams and it doesn't shake out after head to head matchups go to record vs common opponents played to determine the last spot or 2. I run a redraft every year with this format of 3 4team divisions where u don't play one team from year to year and we have never ran into a problem. IMO a double header week could potentially screw u more than not playing a team, also don't extend the season to 17 weeks this would kill some playoff matchups where NFL teams sit their players. Thanks

nothing we do is going to be perfect, or solve everyones problems with it. No matter how well you lay things out, someone is going to be pissed, and someone is going to be happy. I say we just pik 2 or 3 options put them up to vote and go from there

I am working 15 hour days Tuesday-Thursday this week. Thus my lack of response so far. I am fine with whatever system as well. I think I am most partial right now to either 3 divisions of 4 teams and 4 teams make playoffs or 4 divisions of three teams and 6 teams make playoffs. anyhow, these are the options as I see them:
Leave everything as is
3 divisions with 4 playoff teams and play everybody
3 divisons with 6 playoff teams and skip one team per year
4 divisions with 6 playoff teams and play everybody every year.
I would like to say that I will be against division shuffling once they are set this year for at least 3-4 years for rivalries to develop.

I would also like to keep the divisions the same for 3-4 years. I would like 3 divisions with 6 playoff teams. I still think setting up the divisions by geography would be a great way to have some good rivalries. The way I had set up the divisions was fair, with 2 2009 playoff teams in each division.
