To me the 3 division 4 playoff teams is a bad idea. You could get hurt if you are in a tough division. If 6 teams make the playoffs, and you are in a tough division, you have more of a chance to make the playoffs. You won't be hurt as much by your division.

Just to clear up my position, as it seems everyone assumes I am driving the bus for (4) playoff teams..... As stated previosly, I have no problem with the (6) playoff teams, except for the fact that the season is only 13 weeks. The problem with a 13 week season is only that we will not face (1) team outside of our division each year. If we go that route (which looks like where we are headed) I would like LM to follow what Brad suggested he would do, which is to set up a thread that describes the proceedure in detail of how it is determined the scheduling is set for each year. The only reason I was hanging on to the (4) playoff team concept is that is allowed for a 14 week schedule which ELIMINATED the need to create a whole scheduleing burden on LM. In short if LM is willing to add the process of scheduling into the annual LM tasks then I am also in full support of the (6) playoff teams...

I am not sure we need to get that detailed. The ESPN site can set the schedule for us. That way we(me and Brad) have nothing to do with how the schedule turns out. We can't be accused of setting the schedule up to be an advantage/disadvantage for teams.

specifically refering to "The team we don't play each year", and how that is determined? There are several ways to determine that, the way I see it?
Each year it is a different team (8 year process to get through the cycle)
or
Something to do with record, guy finishing first doesn't play the team with worst record from a particular division etc....
Just want whatever the process is to be detailed and followed, I'm sure we can agree on what that is....perhaps LM can go to the ESPN site and determine what choices are allowed for this type of scheduling, so we can come up with something that works with ESPN??

again, you are getting way to detailed for this league. If money was involved I could see about worrying about the team we don't play each year. If we just let ESPN do it,we won't have to worry about it from year to year. Nothing to keep track of,it will just be the luck of the draw from year to year.

Chris, you are missing the point brought up by Neil, Gregg, James, myself and others a month or two ago, which is ESPN had us playing the exact same schedule for both years the league has been going. It was supposed to shift last season for us to play the (3) teams we didn't play the prior year and didn't. All I am trying to do is to help fix that problem from re-occuring.
I might also disagree that "I'm getting too detailed for this league". The beauty of this league is that the majority of us do take it very serious, which ought to make you feel good as one of the guys that started it, wasn't that your intention?

No ESPN did not have us playing the same schedule from 2 years ago,we did. As already stated on this site multiple times,Brad forgot to reset the schedule. I am sure we won't have that problem again, especially with someone as detail orientated as you are Bill. I do take this league very seriously,I just feel you are knit picking a bit.

I can roll the dice because I think Chris is mis-informed and it was due to my wording. When I say it was my fault for not resetting the schedule this year what happened was that I didn't go and manually switch the games that ESPN has the same from year to year. We had this same problem in the KJNL baseball league last year too . . . ESPN will spit out the same schedule year after year with no change unless you manually shake it up.

everything I bring up Chris is for the benefit of this league, not afraid (Obviously) to voice my concerns. As clarified by Brad, LM has to tell ESPN how to schedule, just come up with a system that is fair so we can ensure the most competative scheduleing possible....

I'm thinking of developing a 12 team (3) division schedule that rotates over a several year time period. It would be based on seeding at the end of each year, be very similar to the way the NFL does it (Meaning, outside of the division, the teams that finish worst don't have to play teams that finished toward the top, etc...Obviously you will always play division mates 2 times per season) I cannot promise I will come up with this, but I will try (Hoping Engineer's Neil and Brad may give my guidence in this effort?? I can then use the template in other leagues (Yes GEDL Phish!), this way each season it's just a matter of filling in team names into the blanks. If everyone likes it perhaps we could memorialize it on a thread to be implemented each year as we begin a new season?
